TWINNING with Lèves
Nailsworth & District Twinning Association
|
TWINNING UPDATE
September 2007

A complete update on our twinning with Lèves.
Thank you Carole. |
 The
Association was formed in 1995 and in April of that year, John Cross
Mayor of Nailsworth signed official twinning charters with Michel Castaing, Mayor of the French town of Lèves, next to Chartres to the
southwest of Paris.
The purpose of Twinning is to form a special
relationship between two communities.
Since
1995 a strong bond of friendship has developed between Nailsworth
and Lèves.
The
Twinning Association organises an annual town meeting, one year in
France, one year in England, and the last few years have seen the
creation of blossoming individual relationships between different
groups in our communities – such as the primary schools, dramatic
societies, choral groups, sports teams, and of course families.
|

In 2005, then mayors Sue Reed and Jean-Pierre
Reschoeur officiated at the 10th anniversary celebrations, cutting
several cakes and exchanging gifts.
In Nailsworth we have Lèves Corner which is part
of Market Street.

|
A square in
Lèves
has been named in honour of our town.

 |
As a
gift to commemorate our twinning, Lèves presented Nailsworth with a
stained glass plaque depicting the two town shields.
This was made
by master craftsmen in the world-famous glass workshops of Gabriel
Loire in , and now resides in the lobby of Nailsworth Town
Library.
