Nailsworth Action Plan
The
Nailsworth Action Plan has been drawn up as a result of extensive
consultation in the town, over a two year period ending in 2006. The
work was led by the Town Council in partnership with local
organisations and community groups. Initially a Healthcheck report
was produced which examines all aspects of the town: its strengths
and weaknesses, opportunities and threats. For more information on
the Healthcheck see below.
Following
on from the Healthcheck the aim of the Action Plan is to set out the
Vision and Objectives for the town for the foreseeable future. After
reading this plan you should be able to see what it will be like to
live, work in and visit the town in the next 10 to 20 years. There
are a number of actions and projects which will help the local
partnership achieve these aims, many of which are already underway.
It should be stressed however, that not all of this work can or
should commence immediately. This is a long term plan which will
take many years to come to fruition.

The Healthcheck is a process devised by the
Countryside Agency to
enable towns to assess their strengths and weaknesses and give them
valuable information in planning for their future. Completing a
Healthcheck is a vital process for towns like Nailsworth, as it can
be used to demonstrate need to many sources of funding. A great deal
of work has gone into the Healthcheck report, largely done by unpaid
volunteers.
The document paints a detailed picture of the town in 5 sections:
-
Snapshot
(an overview
of the town)
-
EN -
Environment
(town and countryside)
-
EC -
Economy
(including employment, town centre, tourism)
-
SC -
Social and Community
(including crime, healthcare, housing, sport,
local government)
-
TA -
Transport and Accessibility
(including roads, public
transport, walking and cycling)
The snapshot provides some interesting facts and figures, but for
more depth you need to read the worksheets. The geography page gives
an explanation of how the statistics apply to the town and the
surrounding area.
