Nailsworth’s
Future
I
hope you have enjoyed your journey through Nailsworth, although it’s
not a pretty town, it has always been a very busy, industrious and
welcoming work place. Nailsworth's success is also due to the
considerable time that volunteers give enabling everything to run
smoothly. Nailsworth is a diverse community which welcomes
visitors. Nailsworthians have a long tradition of outspokenness and are not
afraid to voice their opinions and ideas for the improvement of
their community.
These recommendations are often implemented by
town councillors who are currently working with residents and the
district council to facilitate the construction of a Town Plan to
assist future development and regenerate Old Market. They are also
working in partnership with Forest Green residents to build a
Community Centre.
A
variety of hard working traders attract customers who choose to come
to Nailsworth for all their supplies. Small individual shops sell a
range of organic locally grown and hand made produce. Cotswold
Meringues and Bottle Green Drinks are made here. There is an
abundance of artists and craftsmen displaying their wares in the
many galleries around the town.
Another great asset in the town is the free parking facility
in the town centre. Nailsworth also has a fine selection of
take-aways, cafes and restaurants many of which remain open
throughout the day and evening. The adaptation of redundant old
buildings has been encouraged to provide more jobs, especially in
small business and industry, to provide more jobs.
Nailsworth is
surrounded by areas of outstanding natural beauty and much of the
town is in a conservation area. Many buildings hereabouts are
listed, and therefore are protected from unsuitable modernization.
These lovely old buildings are best discovered by ambling around the
town and as the poet W. H. Davies suggested, make time to ‘stand and
stare’ we will enjoy sharing Nailsworth with you.
